Beyonce honors the legacy of her young fan, Lyric Chanel, who died on Friday (March 5) following a two-year struggle with brain cancer and anaplastic ependymoma.
The tough illness of the 13-year-old girl was documented by her family on Instagram, which attracted more than 600,000 fans and attracted the attention of celebrities such as Queen Bey and Cardi B.
After Lyric’s passing, Beyonce posted an emotional video on her website to celebrate the girl’s life. A special medley of her hit hits, “Brown Skin Girl,” “Halo” and “Love on Top,” is heard in Beyonce’s tribute, including photographs and videos of a smiling and dancing lyric.
Towards the end of “Love on Top,” Bey switches the lyric “baby” to “Lyric” in memory of her late fan.
“Lyric it’s you, you’re the one I love, and you’re the one I need,” she sings. “You’re the only one I can see/ Come on Lyric, it’s you/you’re the one who gives all of your stuff/ You’re the one I will still call. When I need you, baby, everything stops. You’re putting my love on top.”
Beyonce ends with a touching tribute, “I love you with all my heart.”
In September, Lyric got a stunning bouquet of white roses from the 39-year-old mother of three after sharing an adorable throwback video of herself singing the 2011 star hit “Love on Top.”
“When Queen Bey gives you flowers,” said Lyric’s family, capturing a video of the girl next to the flowers. “Thank you so much, @beyonce Lyric was so shocked to get mail from you, and she said Beyonce was the best one!!! We love you very much, and she wants to see you one day.”
